From Dickens to 12 Angry Men: Connecting past and present

By HILARY GAVIN

ONCE again I’m a day behind with my self-imposed schedule posting my weekly local commentary Facebook round-up page. In truth, I was too tired, grouchy and upset yesterday to think clearly and rationally so I had to rest up.

Thankfully, I slept well and I woke up this morning thinking about the classic 1957 United Artists movie 12 Angry Men starring Henry Fonda and a host of (well, 11, really) amazingly gifted and talented actors.

In truth, I suppose the vicar’s sermon yesterday at St Mary the Virgin’s Church in Sidlesham which explored Jesus’s 12 disciples (apostles) must have been at the back of my mind when I went to bed early to catch up on much-needed sleep.

If you’ve been reading my blog and social media posts, you’ll know my late Welsh Nan was a devout Christian so I’ve been attending church locally recently, during difficult times, to draw strength from the wise words she taught me in life when she was alive.

Taking a look back at my Facebook posts over the past week or so, I reckon 12 Angry Men sums up my frustration (and I’m certain a lot of other people’s too) at today’s greedy, selfish Hedonistic society where over-friendly fraudsters brand law-abiding citizens RUDE for flagging up possible exploitation.

Okay, I’m going to rein myself in now because I was, quite honestly, at my wits’ end yesterday feeling completely deflated so I’m posting my last 12 Facebook shares and posts here.

Take a look if any of them interest you*.

I’m also reposting a WordPress post that I wrote in June last year on Charles Dickens‘ classic novel Great Expectations, The Rolling Stones, the Redlands play at CFT and Chichester Crown Court.

I wrote this post, which popped up today in my WordPress blog memories, when Chichester was being used as a pop-up court last year so I’m so glad that some dedicated campaigners fought for it to be reinstated.

If you’ve not seen 12 Angry Men (no women note, lol) – take a look because it’s brilliant. Spoken like a true Henry Fonda fan, which I most definitely am!

A public row is averted at Sidlesham Parish Council meeting over Bremere Rife culvert ‘flooding’ surveys and ‘scope of repairs’

By HILARY GAVIN A PUBLIC ROW was averted at yesterday’s Sidlesham Parish Council meeting after two attendees voiced opposing stances on the cause of last winter’s flooding in the village. Local resident Mr Norman Robson, of Bremere Lane Management Company, told parish councillors that a survey had discovered “a jagged edge” in the Bremere Rife…
