A PUBLIC ROW was averted at yesterday’s Sidlesham Parish Council meeting after two attendees voiced opposing stances on the cause of last winter’s flooding in the village.
Local resident Mr Norman Robson, who was representing the Bremere Lane Management Company, told parish councillors that a survey had discovered “a jagged edge” in the Bremere Rife culvert and “blocked logs” had stopped the water flow which had caused the flooding.
But a fellow attendee, who was not named at yesterday’s meeting, told councillors that the Bremere Rife concrete culvert itself was too small for the flow of water resulting in “rising water” every year leading to FLOODING last winter.
You can watch these two attendees debating this impasse at yesterday’s meeting when I post my video footage and reports on both my WordPress journalism website – hilarygavin.blog – and on Facebook and LinkedIn later today.
Yesterday’s meeting also heard that WSCC is progessing with the £4.86million demolishment and redevelopment of the 1930s four-classroom block at Sidlesham Primary School in Keynor Lane after a 2024 survey discovered “significant” structural defects there.
Sidlesham councillors heard that a community consultation for four new classroms and a group room will be held at the school next month before the tendering process begins next year. The building works are expected to begin in 2028 with an anticapted completion date that same year.
Temporary measures are expected to be put in place to avoid any disruption to classes.
You can read full details of both these stories in my WordPress coverage of yesterday’s Sidlesham Parish Council meeting along with other village matters including an update on the Stockbridge gas pipe mains works diversion which is causing traffic delays across the Manhood Peninsula.
