IF YOU’VE been following my Facebook vlogs on social media you’ll understand why it’s been some time since I last updated my WordPress blog – I’ve been too busy at my caravan holiday let.
I believe it was the American comedian and actor W.C. Fields who coined the phrase “Never work with children or animals” due to their unpredictability on stage and on film sets.
Since the 2026 season started I should say that the majority of the guests I’ve welcomed to Oakley’s Lodge on the Seal Bay Resort in Selsey have been charming, but there have been a few adults who have left me wondering whether some children ever grow up.
I won’t expand on the maintenance and cleaning issues I’ve faced over the past couple of weeks in this WordPress blog but – suffice to say – I feel as though I’ve been through the wars after my car woes.
If you’d like to get an insight into my life as a novice holiday let owner and my day-to-day exploits, take a look at my recent Facebook posts which I hope you find entertaining.
As you can see I’m currently dealing with a troublesome toilet cistern at my caravan and I had toyed with embedding the YouTube trailer for the 1971 movie Carry On At Your Convenience here.
I have to say that I know very little about this particular Carry On film, which I believe follows the industrial relations at WC Boggs’ toilet factory, but it seemed apt given my current plight.
Saying that, I’ve decided to share the official British Lion Films Ltd trailer for the 1959 comedy film I’m Alright, Jack, starring Ian Carmichael as hapless wartime veteran Stanley Windrush, Peter Sellers as the union shop steward Fred Kite and Terry-Thomas as factory boss Major Hitchcock. Funny, very funny.
Before I sign off, I’d have to admit that I’ve never watched the 1956 prequel Private’s Progress but I’d love to hear from those of who have seen it. Is it worth taking a gander?
