I CAN HARDLY believe another week has flown by and I’m sharing my regular Facebook news round-up with you again.
Of course, you can either click through to my Facebook posts below or visit my Hilary Gavin’s Local Reporting Commentary page on Meta where you can easily scroll through them in one go.
Sadly, I’m full of cold today and am suffering with a rattly chest which is unusual for me and quite concerning too because I don’t have access to a local GP Surgery at the present time.
To be frank, I’m not sure how much I’ve told you about this sorry saga – but I’ve embedded the late, great comedian Dave Allen’s sketch on doctors’ receptionists at the bottom of this WordPress post which pretty much sums my feelings up!
So, what’s been rattling my cage this week? What’s got me riled up?
Sadly, it’s the scourge of drug-dealing and my despair at our modern-day society that turns a blind eye to nasty critters who prey on vulnerable young adults using drugs as a form of escape.
Now, I’m not about to delve into the psychology here – mainly because I’m not qualified to do so – but deep depression starts somewhere and, in my humble view, it often stems from abandonment and fear.
Unfortunately, our NHS referral system for vital counselling services isn’t fit for purpose leaving police officers to deal with situations that mental health professionals should address.
Of course, the stigma of mental health disorders in today’s broken society prevents drink, drug and gambling addicts desperately needing support from seeking it, so they never break free.
As we know, addicts aren’t the only victims as relatives and carers bear the brunt of polite society’s inability to face facts head-on and who often find themselves branded naive, pathetic or weak.
If you scroll through my Facebook posts, you’ll see that I know very little about the recreational drug ketamine which is being peddled in my village of Hunston in West Sussex in England.
At the start of last week, I only knew of ketamine as “the horse drug” as veterinarians use it as a tranquilliser, so I wasn’t aware that NHS paramedics handle it at roadside emergencies too.
As you can see from my Facebook snippets, I emailed our local horseracing courses and the British Veterinarian Association (BVA) to alert them to the local drug-dealing and I had a very informative reply from the BVA which put my mind at rest about safeguards.
If you take a look at my Facebook threads, you see I’ve learnt a lot about the global trafficking in ketamine from the Gov.UK website and from a social media friend who feels I need educating.
As far as I am can glean, the drug is a derivative of heroin from Afghanistan which is manufactured illegally in China before being distributed worldwide to Central America and the USA.
Of course, I’ve no idea how the criminal gangs smuggle ketamine into the UK – but I’m also aware that India exports ketamine legally so I assume the NHS buys it from legit laboratories there.
My Facebook pal says drug dealers only trade in illegal ketamine but, as I said to him, I hope the NHS is auditing pharmaceuticals stringently because Big Business accounting seems so lax today.
As you can see, I began the week by commenting on the Russian-born US philosopher Ayn Rand who espoused individualism and spawned neoliberal followers including banker Alan Greenspan.
Anyhow, I’ll leave you alone now to read my view on the damage capitalism and Free Trade has wreaked globally.
As I say, unfettered capitalism can become a dictatorship and it is hard-working ordinary people who become its slaves.
