IT APPEARS winter is setting in here in Hunston, West Sussex, as it was rather nippy today, and wet. Sadly, I didn’t film yesterday’s scheduled Hunston Parish Council meeting so I’m not sure if the councillors were able to make a quorate for proceedings to go ahead at the annexe of our village hall.

You can go online to the parish council’s website at Hunston Parish Council to view the agenda for yesterday’s meeting, and you’ll see that it included item 80/25C when the councillors were expected “to receive an update on matters relating to the potential provision of a new village hall”.

If you visit the website you can also read the update of plans to either revamp or rebuild the village hall in the draft minutes for September’s postponed meeting at item 80/25C, which says: “The contractor (Whaleback) appointed to give advice and plans for the village hall has been contacted and will come down for a site visit in early October. It was agreed once plans were available then a public meeting would be held to explain the issues to residents and to obtain a consensus on a way forward”. As I wasn’t at yesterday’s meeting, I do not know whether our parish councillors approved the draft minutes but, if they did, these minutes should be posted on the council’s official website in due course.

The draft minutes for September’s meeting also include an update on the External Audit report for the year ending 31 March 2025 at item 82/25C entitled Finance, which were noted as follows: “The External Audit Certificate had been received and two issues as other matters had been identified. The Clerk explained that contact details had been missed off the Notice of Public Rights, and the External Auditor had stated that there had been insufficient explanation of variances. The Clerk advised that this related to Staff Salaries and the additional information requested had been unreasonable and has been questioned. The Clerk confirmed that the ‘Notice of Conclusion of Audit’ had been publicised as required.”

It was a pity I wasn’t at the meeting at the annexe of our village hall to film proceedings yesterday but as I explained in my Facebook (Meta) post embedded below the parish council meeting would have been recorded and the clerk should be collating the draft minutes to be approved by councillors in the new year.

In the meantime, why not take a look at the Facebook post I wrote yesterday which includes links to my previous coverage of Hunston Parish Council meetings this year on this WordPress site https://www.hilarygavin.blog.
