Reflecting on Diana’s funeral, media frenzy, PR spin and the dangers of Big Tech online

By HILARY GAVIN

TWO WordPress blogs in one day, you lucky, lucky readers. Mind you, this post is a re-blog of my thoughts on Diana’s funeral at Westminster Abbey in London on September 6th, 1997, Press intrusion and The Royal Family. Of course, Tuesday will mark the fourth anniversary of our beloved late Queen Elizabeth‘s death and I have to admit to missing her as I grew fond of her over the years. To be honest, I’m too worn-out and tired to debate the media frenzy of the celebrity-crazed days of Cool Britannia in the Nineties but I’ve still got the strength to keep warning the public of the dangerous path PR spin and oversized Press Offices in local, district and county councils, the Police and NHS has led us today. Sadly, Big Tech and “schoolyard bullying” on unregulated social media sites and apps has enabled global crime gangs to exploit the young, old and vulnerable online but I’m still hopeful WE can turn this sorry state of affairs around if grown adults stop acting like spoilt children, firing off vox-pop-style soundbites and start debating serious issues calmly and sensibly in depth.
